I attended a youth group for about a year at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. It is located off the bypass in Aiken, SC. An industrial kaolin quarry lies hidden about one and a half miles into the woods behind New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

The kaolin quarry was one of the first places for which I developed such a piercing affection, I knew that something powerful lay in the existence of a single place that was nowhere other than where it is. That is to say, I better understood what "home" means.

Kaolin is a white, powdery mineral that seems to be quite rare. A vein of it runs through South Carolina, notably underneath the City of Aiken. It is one of the main ingredients in baby powder.

A montage of five photographs to convey the general lay of the quarry's terrain.
