
A note on the destruction of books.
I am surprised at the attitude held by many otherwise enlightened people that the destruction of a book is inherently evil. The moral indignation voiced by those who hold this perspective reveals that the religious totem of education is, indeed, the tome. Much as Christianity is suggested by the mere representation of a crucifix, education and enlightenment are suggested by the representation of a bound volume of pages.
I mean no ultimate violence toward this perspective; I possess it myself.Next.
