------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Transcription of the contents of the red binder labeled thusly: HAYNES ------ WESLEY BJHC ARCHIVE #2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The above notation is found on the upper right hand corner of the front of the red three-ring binder, as well as along the binder's spine. These notes seem to have the character of research scribbles, in some instances, and may not represent conclusive information regarding genealogical information relevant to my grandmother's research goals. As well, given the high probability that these notes were intended as my grandmother's shorthand for her own reference, some of their meanings may be obscured or impossible to discern. Instances in which I am unsure of the word spelled will be given in brackets. For example, if the shorthand appears to read "Mylnd," I may write [Maryland] to denote my uncertainty. If my grandmother has drawn a line connecting a piece of information on one part of the page to another, I will represent this on the same line by use of the symbol: <--->. I will then place a numerical note after the line, which will appear in front of the information to which the line connects the first piece of information. For example, if she had written "Richard Pace" and drawn a line to the words "Mass- acre of 1622," I would write: Richard Pace <---> *1* When the information "Massacre of 1622" appears in the text of the page, I would write: *1* Massacre of 1622 This should help clear up some of the uncertainties regarding the flow of infor- mation in my grandmother's shorthand. At the end of each page, I will offer personal observations regarding what my grand- mother was writing about, if the content of the shorthand is obscure. Transcription started 30 September 2005. It is estimated to contain 37,000 pre-1700 marriages with over 100,000 references. The sources consulted by Torrey were those available at the New England Nistoric Genealogy Society up to 1960. The collection is arranged alphabetically according to the husband's surname. Additional information might include the husband's birth and death dates, the wife's surname, and similar data. 3- McCubbins' Collection A set of 76 microfilm of original and typescript in the Rowan County, North Carolina Public Library at Salisbury. This material was compiled by Mamie McCubbins and arranged by Mrs. Murphy Beard and Julir Riley. The first three films are the indexes to what the collection contains. 4- Guion Miller records relating to enrollment of Easter Cherokee, 1908-1910. This collection contains many rolls of microfilm. At present, we have 47 rolls of microfilm on the Cherokee and 18 other rolls of film on other tribes. We hope to eventually have all of almost 400 rolls of microfilm available in this collection. 5- Virginia Land Grants in Kentucky Virginia land grants--1782-1792. Consists of land grants for the area of Kentucky County, Virginia. In 1792, this area became the state of Kentucky. There are 9 rolls of microfilm in this collection. We presently have the index and volumes 1-16, which completes this 9 roll collection. 6- We are collecting other area films as patrons need them. We presently have some local area records and other films pertinant to the work our patrons are involved in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 21 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [BLANK.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 22 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [BLANK.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 23 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [BLANK.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 24 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Haines pgs. 18,337 -- copy 18,378 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 25 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [BLANK.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 26 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [BLANK.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 27 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [BLANK.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 28 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [BLANK.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 29 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ National Archives Atlanta Branch 1557 St. Joseph Avenue E.
